IGCSE – Years 10 and 11
IGCSE stands for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education. This two-year programme, which takes place during Year 10 and Year 11, leads to externally set, marked, and certificated examinations from the University of Cambridge. Any student who takes an IGCSE subject will gain a qualification that is recognised globally.
The core IGCSE Curriculum at Bright Horizons is made up of the following subjects: Mathematics, English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Information and Communication Technology, Croatian language, National Subject (Croatian History and Geography), PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) and Global Perspectives.
To encourage a balanced curriculum, students choose a minimum of 2 optional subjects, and a maximum of 4 from the following: English Literature, Art and Design, Physical Education, Geography, and Modern Language (German)
PSHE is a core part of the curriculum focusing on physical and mental well-being, current affairs issues, and preparing for life.
Global perspectives subject encourages learners to think about and explore solutions to significant global issues. It develops learners’ ability to consider significant global issues from different perspectives and motivates learners to work collaboratively and individually as they apply their knowledge in different contexts.

SIXTH FORM – Years 12 and 13
Sixth form represents the final two years of secondary education, ages 16 to 18. In Year 12, pupils select three A-level subjects, although in some circumstances pupils will be allowed to choose four. Additionally, Croatian students will follow the Curriculum for the Croatian language and the National Subject of Croatian History and Geography.
In Year 13, students at Bright Horizons High School will have A-level exams by Cambridge Assessment International Education which will be valid as Croatian A-level ‘Matura’.
Furthermore, all Sixth Form students also participate in our Academic Enrichment Programme, University Application Support process, and Careers Programme, and they undertake Volunteering and Work Experience, as well as lessons in PE and PSHE every week. Pupils also have a number of periods during the week when they are expected to prepare for classes, to show a wider interest in what they are learning and to be academically curious – vital skills for higher education.
